Alex Katz (born 1927) is an American painter known for his distinctive figurative style, characterized by bold colors and simplified forms. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he studied at the Cooper Union and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Katz gained recognition for his large-scale portraits and landscapes, which bridge abstraction and realism. His work has been exhibited in major institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Internationally, his paintings have been shown at the Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
